Daily Devotion 27/06/2021. Be Watchful and Pray, This Worldly Things will Fade Away

Devotional Bible Text: “Those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.” –1 Cor. 7:31

Devotional Content: Nothing is genuine unless it has a lasting substance. Health deteriorates, strength wanes, beauty fades from the face, sight and hearing deteriorate, the intellect itself becomes feeble, riches take flight and fly away, children die, friends pass away, old age creeps in, and life itself comes to an end. These fleeting, transient entities are then nothing more than shadows; they lack substance, lasting substance. They support and comfort us in our journey through life, just as our daily food and clothing, housing and home do. But they come to an end there; as life comes to an end, they come to an end as well.
Real religion, on the other hand—and by this I mean God’s work on the soul—survives death and after death, walks beside us through the dark valley, and lands us safely in a happy eternity. As a result, it is the only thing in the world about which we can assert that it is real. Isn’t this John’s evidence? “All that is in the world, including the desire of the body, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is of the world, not of the Father. And the world, with its desire, passes away; but he who fulfills God’s will lives forever ” (1 John 2:16, 17).
And who is that lucky guy who survives while everyone else dies, who lives eternally when everyone else perishes in the outside darkness? He is the one who carries out God’s will. But how and when do we obey God’s will? “And this is the desire of him who sent me, that everyone who sees and believes in the Son may have eternal life—and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:40). If you have seen and believed in the Son, you now have eternal life, and Jesus will raise you up at the end of time.

Devotional Prayer: PRAYER: I pray Lord Jesus that I will not be carried away by these worldy things and miss the great reward in heaven. Shift my gaze away from the things of the earth and help me to focus on the things in heavenly places.
