You cannot obey the Lord and be a reasoning person.
Whatever He says to you, do it!
At the wedding in Cana, something happened, the wine got finished and Mary the mother of Jesus simply went to Jesus and said they have no wine. But Mary just handed the servants a key and left them with it.
She said “…Whatever He says to you, do it.” John 2:5.
What a stunning statement!
Did she know ahead of time that Jesus was going to say something?
But somehow it seems from her experience of walking with God, Mary had come to understand that when you are expecting God’s miracle or you want to experience the fulness of the Divine life; watch out for His word and obey it. Listen carefully to His word; hear what He says, then do it swiftly without the contention of reasoning.
Eventually the miracle came because the servants obeyed Mary and had prepared ahead of time to do whatever Jesus told them. No wonder the Prophet Isaiah exclaimed:
“If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land;”
See, God will NEVER allow you to progress into the promise land of miracles, blessings, and fulfilment until he breaks and destroys every stronghold of reasoning in your mind-life. And when He deals with you to overthrow strongholds, He does not give reasons.
Peter testified that what he had done in going to the Gentiles was in obedience to the Spirit, without doubting or reasoning. And the Spirit bade me go with them, nothing doubting…
Your reasoning mind will always find a reason why you should not obey God or be attune to the Holy Spirit.
Most times, and above everything else, it is reasoning that prevents us from obeying. There are one million and one reasons why we do not obey, reasons why we do not act on certain instructions and follow divine inclinations.
Human reasoning resists and grieve the Holy Spirit; carnal perceptions eventually put out the Spirit’s firepower.
1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 (GW)
Don’t put out the Spirit’s fire.
Don’t despise what God has revealed.
Instead, test everything. Hold on to what is good.
If you want to increase and grow your divine life, and consistently be full of God, then you must settle it in your heart that you will not at any time resist the Holy Spirit.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Always let the Spirit prevail. You don’t have to have a reason to obey God’s word other than to just obey.
Throughout the Testaments, God’s promises required that we hearken diligently and observe to obey the commandment of the Lord.
This simply means that to overthrow the stronghold of our reasoning, you must let the Spirit prevail. When you follow the Spirit, when you go along with the Spirit, then your reasoning mind can be overthrown. Then you can be in a position to catch the thoughts of God until CHRIST is fully formed in YOU. This is intercourse is what it means to have the mind of Christ.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.
For, “Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16
BECAREFUL, the battleground for Spiritual Warfare is the mind; the mind is the stronghold of every satanic assaults and temptation. And reasoning is one of Satan’s most deadly weapon of havoc against God’s will, counsel, and purpose for your life.
In fact, FEAR is a form of REASONING. Fear is a thought about alternative possibilities being presented as factual evidences or false appearances being projected as reality of uncertainties; the purpose of such form of reasoning is to stimulate anxiety, and engender panic about God’s word, and to ultimately paralyses your will to disobey, so that your life can be impotent of God’s blessings and presence.
That is why this is written to you in the scriptures:
For the weapons of YOUR warfare are not Carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations –REASONING, and every high thing –REASONING that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought–REASONING to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled –2 Corinthians 10:4-6 KJV
In other words, Paul was saying: One by one, take captive every thought that comes in–even a right thought. When a right thought comes; may be an inspiration from the Holy Spirit, don’t surround that thought with reasons–more and more reasons; Just OBEY!
That is, you are so full of the Holy Ghost, that you have no choice. Yet, you have choices, but you chose to choose God’s choice.
Now, you can see, that this popular scripture, often quoted against demonic forces in Spiritual Warfare caucus, has little or NOTHING to do with demons and satanic powers, but everything to do with the mind and reasoning.
And when you look at that scripture in context also, Paul aimed at challenging the THOUGHT PATTERN of some folks in the church in Corinth “But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I THINK to be bold against some, WHICH THINK of us as if we walked according to the flesh” — 2 Corinthians 10:2
Likewise, Paul’s conclusion also was a challenge to RE-THINK and consider Christ’s orientation and attitude of obedience. So, he wrote: “Do you look on things after the outward appearance? if any man trust to himself that he is Christ’s, let him of himself THINK this again, that, as he is Christ’s, even so are we Christ’s. — 2 Corinthians 10:7. As though he was writing to them again.
“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” –Philippians 2:5
Dearly beloved, just as Mary told the waiters, I say to you also “Whatever He says to you, do it”
As if Mary saying to you right now: if you will just obey Him and do all He asks you to do, without any argument of reason, then you will have your blessings.
I perceive the Lord wants to reach out to you again today. Are you ready and alert to listen carefully to His instructions?
Are you prepared to do what he would ask you to do to experience that miracle?
I pray that your mind will be opened to spiritual insights, and your will be greased with grace for obedience. In Jesus Christ Name. Amen.
