What God will BLESS as a SUPPLEMENT, He will CURSE as a SUBSTITUTE.
God’s blessing can become a retroversion of its effect in your life when you abuse its purpose. In other words, When you misuse God’s blessing, it can have a negative impact on your life.
Anytime you substitute “sacrifice” for obedience, “principles” for prayer, “strategies for faith, “compromise” for separation, “diplomacy” for integrity “loyalty to men” for dedication to God and other spiritual responsibilities, God’s blessings will become a curse to you. But if they are supplement tools you work with to advance the kingdom of God, I am quite positive they will be a blessing
Frankly ask yourself, why you labor so much, and work so hard with little or no result to show for it – year in, year out?
It is as if your life is a roller-coaster of inadequacy and fruitlessness. You barely survived with your daily needs, and hardly can rest from your hard labors. You quite make ends meet, but it appears only to put them in purse with holes in it. You cycle along the coast of destiny with rigorous toil, but your life remains little and confined.
Just as it is written:
“You have planted much but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in purse with holes in it.” Haggai 1:6
Surely but sadly, many seem not to understand why, and have taken this mode as a normal way of life. The sorrowful dimension is that men on pulpits have made our ignorance a spot for extortion and our situation a stream for personal gains through many teachings on giving-your-way-out-of-poverty.
They plunder our remains, and provide us with sparks of hope; yes, false hopes, just to keep us coming back and keep us within the wheels of extortion and despair. But really, are they to be blamed for taking advantage of our situations?
No, we are. We have failed to sit down to ask ourselves some pertinent questions and contemplate our ways before God. No one cares to ask, WHY?
I repeat, What God will bless as a supplement; He will curse as a substitute. God’s blessing can become a retroversion of its effect in your lives when you abuse its purpose. That is, When you misuse God’s blessing, it can have the opposite effect in your life.
This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“Give careful thought to your ways. You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why?” declares the Lord Almighty. “Because of my house, which remains a ruin, while each of you is busy with your own house” Haggai 1:9
Mathew Henry stated,
“When God crosses our temporal affairs, and we meet disappointment and troubles, we will find the cause is, that the work we have to do for God and our souls is left undone, and we seek our own things more than the things of Christ.”
The issue is, we often substitute our duty to God, with what the Grace of God provides as supplements tool to advance the kingdom of God through our lives. We chase the supplements at the expense of the life and purpose. God said, “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house [YOU and what you represent in the Kingdom] remains a ruin?” Haggai 1:4 emphasis mine
In order words, God is asking you:
- Why have you traded the Vision of the kingdom so much for your ambitions?
- How long will you abandon the very purpose for which you were called and saved, for your lustful desires and the deceitfulness of riches?
- Is it the right time to seek personal comfort in this world when urgent matters of the kingdom are left unattended?
- Is it the time you should be after a luxurious lifestyle, when the temple, whose you are, is in a bad condition and your spiritual life is malnourished?
- Why have you been pushing the calling of God upon your life aside until you think the time is ideal, when precious moments are really passing by?
Again I say, Anytime you substitute “sacrifice” for obedience, “principles” for prayer, “strategies for faith, “compromise” for separation, “diplomacy” for integrity “loyalty to men” for dedication to God and other spiritual responsibilities, they will become a curse to you. However, if you use them as a supplement to further God’s kingdom, I believe they will be a blessing.
How many, who claim that they are too busy to give considerable time to their spiritual condition – prayer, studying and preaching of the Word of God, often lavish ten times as much in needless expensive, unprofitable, and inconvenient activities, such as social media and soul deflating occasions?
Many good works have been intended, but not a few have been left unattended, because we suppose the proper time was not come, thereby losing opportunities for usefulness.
In other words, because we think the right time hasn’t arrived, we’ve neglected a number of worthwhile missions for the kingdom, thereby missing out on the chance to be of use to God at such a time as this.
It is God’s earnest desire to gain Honor and Glory through your life, which is the mirror of His presence, but He will not do this on your own terms, but on His.
Therefore, follow His recommendation:
“Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build my house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored,” says the Lord. Haggai 1:8
Today, I challenge you with the concern of self-examination, and to commune with your hearts about your spiritual condition. Sin is what we must answer for; duty is what we must do. Whatever God will take pleasure in when done; we ought to take pleasure in doing.
Don’t delay your return to God; do it now while there is still time.
Shalom!
