Wisdom for Staying SAFE as such a Time as This.

wisdom-signApostle Peter considered the conclusive destructive mystery that is imminent upon this world, his staggering rhetorical conclusion is, what kind of people ought you to be? That is, with this reality in view, how then should you live your life?

Wisdom – your capacity to understand reality and ability to apply knowledge, is the principal and critical element that will keep you save at such a time as this.

Living holy unto the Lord, and maintaining a godly lifestyle in this world is nothing about religion but everything about Wisdom. It is wise to live holy consistently and consciously maintain righteousness at such a time as this. It is only a foolish man that will see danger and walk into it headlong. But a wise man takes precautions and avoid many troubles.

The prudent see danger and take refuge,
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty. Proverbs 22:3

In other words, you will be wise, if you open your hearts to understanding and dispose yourself in making the most of every opportunity by following God’s agenda and aligning yourself with his will.

Ways to Stay Save

Let’s look at the practical dimensions of wisdom that will keep me and you save in these evil days.

  1. Living with Focus and Vigilance.

The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 4:7, 5:8

Do not allow the devil to devour your object of focus, namely; Christ Jesus. Satan understood that he may not be able to tamper with man’s need and zeal to worship God, because it is in man to worship. So he has resorted to distracting people focus from God or out rightly substituting their object of worship and allegiance. He dilutes people’s passion for God with inordinate affections, and substitute their heavenly vision with earthly ambitions. He distract with vanity and neutralizes eternity from view. He lures the soul with Gold, and null the spirit man of God. He deflates your thirst for the Cross of Christ and inflates your quest for the Crest of Men.

Nonetheless, the vigilance at heart will not fall prey to his subtle schemes. People that are sober – serious, sensible, and solemn, who pays close and constant attention to the conditions of their own heart and the attitude of their own spirit will not be swayed by satanic manipulations. Effective prayer requires being sober – serious, sensible, and solemn. An unrestraint mind cannot pray effectively neither will it be prepared to mitigate and disarm the assaults of Satan against the soul.

Beloved, you need to watch out for strange fires within your heart, and every wildness of the spirit. Always narrow your gaze and streamline your attention. Remember, narrow is the way that leads to life and few people finds it. But wide is the way that leads to destruction, yet many walk therein.

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Mathew 7:13-14

Sincerely, it is not going to be easy to be “narrow” amidst many broad contentions these days. It will require diligence and consistent efforts. There may be many distractions, but we must always fight the good fight of faith and maintain our focus on eternal values and stay steady on the track of truth. Watch you association and your affections. Pay careful attention on what you hear and how you listen. Be careful about what you watch on TV, Youtube, or at cinemas. Rather, focus on what really count for Life and Eternity

Be diligent even about preachers your watch or listen to, look after the fruits of the Spirit and not be carried away by charisma, media effects, and gifting. Remember, it is not all who calls Lord, Lord, and performs miracles that truly belong to Christ or represents Him or His interest.

Jesus Said: “Be wary of false preachers who smile a lot, dripping with practiced sincerity. Chances are they are out to rip you off some way or other. Don’t be impressed with charisma; look for character. Who preachers are is the main thing, not what they say.

A genuine leader will never exploit your emotions or your pocketbook. These diseased trees with their bad apples are going to be chopped down and burned.

“Knowing the correct password—saying ‘Lord, Master,’ for instance—isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience—doing what my Father wills. I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, ‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.’

And do you know what I am going to say? ‘You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important. You don’t impress me one bit. You’re out of here.’ Mathew 7:15 -23. The Message Bible

Looking at the scripture critically, it says “at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me…” It is a serious matter and we must take it as such. Countless thousands are indeed out there, ministers of Self and instruments of Satan.

They are merely after profit and self-glory.

Of Such, Beware!

  1. Living with Patience, Contentment, and Self Control

Apparently today, the seed of greed is being sown into the hearts of God’s people by ministers and preachers of the gospel. Greed; excessive longing to have more, is what is being stirred in the heart of many from the pulpit today. Likewise seed of discontentment and impatience.

Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke 12:15

Jesus nowhere promised possessions, but he teaches priorities that challenges His followers’ lifestyles. Whereas, people and their needs matter, possessions beyond one’s needs are worthless. Your need is what is necessary to survive.

However, poverty and discipleship are not synonymous. You are not poor because you are a follower of Jesus Christ nor are you a follower of Christ because you are poor. Diligence is what breaks the yoke of poverty, and idleness aggravates needs

Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor. Proverbs 12:24

Whoever learns to work diligently with his hands will always have sufficiently to meet his needs and share with others – Ephesians 4:28b. Whoever that cannot put food on his table will live and loom in perpetual lack, but whoever has enough to eat and can share with others is prosperous. No amount of prayers will cast out the spirit of poverty. Case in fact, the spirit of idleness is the spirit of poverty, and it is only diligent labour that will cast him out. No other spirit is behind poverty in a believer’s life other than the spirit of slothfulness and idleness

Nevertheless the virtue of patience, contentment and self-control are must-be characteristics of a genuine disciple of Christ. They are virtues that stem from the disciple’s sacrifices of obedience.

Do not imitate many Christians today. They have developed unhealthy spirit of covetousness and greed. Their minds have become corrupted and have been robbed of the truth

These people always cause trouble. Their minds are corrupt, and they have turned their backs on the truth. To them, a show of godliness is just a way to become wealthy. 1 Timothy 6:5

The bible elsewhere talked about these people as going after a form of Godliness – just because they consider it a means to financial gain only, but they deny its true power of transformation and holiness.

The cause of many grief and strives and dissatisfaction in the lives of many people today is lack of contentment, patience, and self-control. The evil spirit coordinating these activities is subtle but deadly. He has succeeded in making men behind the pulpit his spokes agents and machinery of despair. He appears to be concerned about your welfare but indirectly sows in your spirit discontentment and clouds your soul with greed. He turns God to medium to fulfil your greed and deprives you of offering genuine worship to God.

We need to repent from every dead works and genuinely turn towards God. We need to ask for the spirit of contentment, patience, and self-control so that we can survive the evil of our days. However, we must also stand up and fight the good fight of faith.

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 1 Timothy 6:11 -12

Let us therefore flee from all these evil things and hold tightly to eternal life to which God has called us.

  1. Sown NOT Among Thorns

This is the time to Maximize and Optimize your earthly investments for eternal profiting. Be careful about how you dispense your resources, and pay attention to the administration of your wealth.

You may need to re-evaluate your theology of giving to God’s work and re-access your understanding of kingdom investment. I fear, hitherto, many have ended up giving to establish man’s kingdom in ignorance rather than propagating the Gospel of God’s kingdom. For there is a difference in giving to promote men’s ambition and giving towards propagating God’s vision.

God’s Vision Man’s Ambition
Originates from heaven, reaching forth to the earth from heaven. Originates from what is earthly, aim at reaching to heaven from the earth,
Built according to the pattern given from heaven Built according to the man’s idea and pattern seen on the earth
Glorifies God and demonstrates his power Glorify the Flesh – Pride, Boastful, self-seeking
Built to do the will of God Built to fits man’s idea
Makes God’s name great among men Makes name for Man/Self among men

Invest less in things that has no everlasting value

Give wholesomely to support genuine work of God. Always be led by God’s spirit to give and do not yield any longer to the compulsion of men. The Spirit of God is gentle and not forceful in his leadings.

Give to the poor and the Needy

Do all you can to support missions and the spread of the Gospel of the Kingdom.
