Wrong Ways to Pray – Part 3

You pray wrongly when you are overwhelmed by the Pressure of Iniquity and the Presence of SIN in your Life

Your prayer becomes ineffective when seasoned with SIN and discoloured with immoralities.

Without Holiness, No ONE {all inclusive, and none exclusive} can see God!

Prayer, at its heart, is communicating with God. When we do not pray, and keep ourselves away from the place of communion, we move away from any possibility of intimacy with Christ.

Most times, what keeps us away from sincere prayer and genuine communion with God is broken fellowship occasioned by SIN. Although, our relationship with God through Christ is not truncated, but somehow we will notice that rather than drawing near to God, we move farther away in independence.  SIN cannot break your relationship with God in Christ, but SIN can temporarily break your fellowship with God.

It is written: “Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity.”

Habbakuk 1:13

A life of Prayer keeps you away from SIN, and a life of SIN keeps you away from Prayer. In other words, a Praying Man cannot be committed to SIN, and a Sinning Man cannot be committed to Prayer.

“We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly person who does his will”

John 9:31

Prayer means seeking God’s face over matters of life and issues that bother upon our relationship with him. Therefore, in other to see His face, we must labour in the Grace of Holiness, and ensure that our lives are kept clean and clear enough to give force and effect to our prayers before Him

“Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”

Hebrew 10:22

The reason we seek out other non-effective means of prayer in reaching out to God is either we do not want to, or we do not know how to draw near to God with a sincere heart. Though we please God with our Faith, yet we cannot see His face because of failing to harness the Grace of Holiness, which is a core requirement to Seeing and Beholding Him.

“Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.”

Hebrews 12:14

Faith pleases God, but Holiness sees God.  As much as it is impossible to Please God without Faith (Hebrew 11:6), So also, without Holiness NO ONE can See God.

Consequently, God has given You and I His own status of Holiness, by making His Holy Spirit resident in us permanently, so as to be able to have constant and unbroken access into His presence for effective communion and prayer.

The essence of Holiness is remaining the temple where God can dwell, because you are already God’s temple (1 Corinthians 3:16). He gives us His Holy Spirit, therefore the command to be Holy!

For it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16

No meaningful and result oriented prayer can be made to God without a conscious and a consistent Holy Living.

Yet, we can  grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30), when we become casual towards sin, nonchalant about evil, and when we fall short of our responsibilities to keep our lives clean from immoralities. As we “continue to grieve the Holy Spirit”, meaning we continue on doing what God has been convicting us of, it will be harder each time for us to hear His reproach until eventually we block Him out altogether.

Sin becomes easier the second time, easier still the third and so on. Our conscience, God’s conviction, is deafeningly loud the first time and grows quieter with each offense. Only by walking with Him daily and keeping near enough to Him to hear His “still small voice” are we able to live the lives that He intends for us. We can walk far enough away from His voice that we reach the point where we have “totally quenched Him.”

When the Holy Spirit is grieving, prayer becomes a difficult task, and when He is quenched, prayer becomes out-rightly impossible. It is the Holy Spirit that helps us in Prayer, so we cannot afford to keep getting Him grieved with sins in our lives. “…. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.” Romans 8:26

Therefore, our ONLY obligation is to consciously sustain and maintain the residence of the Holy Spirit, which we are.

You are the habitation of God’s Holy Presence, You are his Dwelling Place, and Effective Prayer is the language of this Abode!

Dear Beloved, what I say to You, I say to All: “Do not quench the Spirit”

1 Thessalonian 5:19

You are blessed!
