This Truth cannot be overstated; Spiritual warfare contest for worship and allegiance; it is not binding and loosing Satan. The cross of Jesus Christ and his death brought Satan and his demonic cohorts to a permanent defeat and perceptual regret.
For had they known this, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory –1 Corinthians 2:8
Spiritual warfare in the new covenant is ALL about waging war against the FLESH and its agents rather than against the Devil and his demons. We are charged to declare and wage war on the Flesh and its members. It is a self-focused and self-directed warfare.
So, kill (deaden, deprive of power) the evil desire lurking in your members [those animal impulses and all that is earthly in you that is employed in sin]: sexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, and all greed and covetousness, for that is idolatry (the deifying of self and other created things instead of God).
The primary target of satanic forces is to establish footholds in our lives, upon which he can afflict our souls, deter our spiritual progress, thwart our destiny, and destroy our lives. Hence the battle is to mortify every object, and destroy every impulse that the devil may employ as foothold and gateway into our lives.
Leave no [such] room or foothold for the devil [give no opportunity to him]. Ephesians 4:27
That is to say, give Satan no room to operate in your life. Do not allow him to ground your progress or shatter you focus of Worship in God.
With the understanding of the purpose for which God created you, and your spiritual chemistry vis-a-vis Satan, you need to have a divergent view of temptations and problems.
You should no longer see problems as afflictions, but as a Trap of the enemy.
You should now begin to see sin not as a mere moral weakness or challenge, but as a Bait from Satan.
These views Jesus Christ himself, had about sin and temptation. Jesus saw the temptation of Satan as not a struggle, but as a bait. The entire tempuras conversation between Jesus and Satan looked like.
Satan: Turn this stone to bread.
Jesus: Ha ha… You cannot hang your BAIT on my natural appetite. There is more to my immediate desperation for food. I must live by the instructions of God; to whom I owe my allegiance of worship.
Satan: Jump from the height, behold, Angels are on guard.
Jesus: I know am surrounded by angels. However, I cannot be triggered presumptuously, jumping from this height at this time is by no means bringing pleasure to God, because He has not demanded it. Therefore, I cannot tempt him to wrath or provoke His fury with spiritual recklessness.
Satan: Right now, Jesus, I am very frustrated with you. Let me come out straight and plain with my demand all along. I will give to you all the glories and riches of this world. Bow down and WORSHIP ME!
Jesus: I knew all along, and I was just waiting for a definite request. Satan, you are demanding for what is not yours to take. I cannot be hooked on frivolous and deceitfulness of riches. Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.
If you notice the approach of Satan with the first two temptations, he was being indirect about his identity and wrapping his demands for worship with scripture. So likewise, Jesus was wrapping the knowledge of his person and resisting his bait and antics with scriptures.
But when Satan came directly with his demands for Worship; Jesus revealed and rebuked him for who he was, saying “Get thee behind me Satan.”
Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 1 Peter 5:8-9(NIV)
When Satan shows up in your life like a roaring lion, or in your experience like a surging river, resist him and he will flee.
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 (NIV)
Sin becomes a bait; problems the desperate trigger, and temptation the hook.
This is show Satan works in your life:
- He will trigger an occasion of trouble. It could be a lack, it could be a sickness, it could be hunger.
- He will present a subtle way of escape from the troubles –the hook of temptation to lure you to sin. He will keep suggesting ways you have to undertake to solve your problems; outside of God’s ordinances. For Jesus it was Hunger; hunger for food, hunger for Power, hunger for authority.
- Satan will always put something in your life, and that which will require his suggested solutions
- When you take it, it holds you in the wheel of sin and despair; which becomes a chain of allegiance to obey and follow his commands
Take note of this; whenever you find yourself serving Satan’s interest and executing his purpose. That is worship.
Our hearts and minds must be centered on God!
